Will of Henry Foster of Rowner, buried April 20th 1639.

In the name of God, amen the seven and twentieth day of November AD 1638.

I Henry Foster of Roughner being sick of body but of good and perfect remembrance (thanks be given unto God) doe ordaine this my last will and testamenyt in the manner and form following.

Imprimis I bequeth my soule unto Almighty God my Redeemer — throug– his Sonne my Lord and Saviour to obtain free pardon and remission of my sins my body to be buryed in the churchyard of Roughner.

To my brother Robert Foster one ewe sheep.

To my cousin Clement Foster ,,

To my cousin Alfred Foster ,,

To my cousin John Dash ,,

To John Robert ,,

To my cousin Margaret Foster 4 li

To my cousin John Reeves 5 li

To my cousin Jane Foster 1 li 10s

Which legacies and sums of money —- will is that the [above sums etc] shall be paid to them on reaching the age of one and twenty years.

The residue of all my goods and chatells herein not given willed or beqeathed ( my debt payed and my will fulfilled) I give and bequeath unto William my son whom I make my executor of this my last will and testament and do intreat my brother Thomas Dash of Gosport to be his executor in trust and guardian for him in his time of minority until he shall come to the age of one and twenty years during which term of time he shall have the benefit ensuing and growing out of my living,—- that he doe bring him up in the fear of God and do well tend(?) and h[onestly] guide(?) for him also repair the dwelling house and outhouses and manure the land and keep them tenantlike and pay the Lord his rent and all other charges thereunto belonging in living(?) and growing yh— during the term aforesaid. And if it shall happen that William my sonne shall die before he comes to the age of one and twenty years then my will is that all my goods and chatells shall remain unto my brother Robert Foster and my brother Thomas Dash to be equally divided between them and for —- unto them and their heirs and assignors forever. For the better execution of which last will and testament I do intreat my —– —— father in law William Cotten and John Cotten his sonne to bring —- out of the same for thir  paynes ——— ——- I doe give and bequeath unto each of them the sum of six shillings.

His son, William Foster had been baptised in Rowner on 14th March 1626]
